Are Diesel cars more economical?

In the past, diesel cars were more economical than petrol or hybrid cars. This was because diesel engines burn their fuel more efficiently. However, due to the emissions scandal and other factors, diesel’s popularity has decreased. Nowadays, petrol and hybrid engines have caught up to the point where they are just as efficient as diesel engines. Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular because they are cheaper to run in the long term.
